At the 2016 Annual Conference of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches (FGBC), the Sterling Grace Brethren Church was formally accepted as a church of the fellowship.
This is important for several reasons. First, The Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches is not a denomination, but a fellowship of like-minded, independent congregations that acknowledge the bible as the sole authority for faith. Second, This action connects Sterling Grace Brethren Church with a variety of resources, including connection with ministries world-wide, throughout the United States and Canada. An upcoming two day class provided in Alaska by Grace Theological Seminary and  Women of Grace on Soul Care, is an example of this. The dates are September 9-10, 2016.
Living out our life of faith in the local church is important. It is also important for Christians to be part of the larger Church of Christ. In Romans 16:16 we learn that Paul created many churches for Christ. The opportunity to participate in active missions for Christ throughout the world is part of living out our faith, not only at home, but abroad.

"Women of Grace USA facilitates local ministry with results that are global in impact.”

Melissa and a few women from the Kenai Peninsula were able to attend a Women of Grace Leadership Studies course at Eagle River Grace, September 2016.
We had a course led by Viki Rife - Executive Director of Women of Grace, and Cindy Shuler - Director of Operations at Women of Grace. The course was on Soul Care in Leadership.
This class examines how to journey with others in the midst of their questions and pain. Since pain is an inevitable part of this world, we aim to work to develop a theology of suffering, and understand how God uses pain as part of the spiritual formation process. Instead of running from it, trying to numb it or pray it away, we will begin to ask the question of what God may be up to in our lives as we process through pain. This class also addressed how to maintain balance and perspective in the midst of caring for others in the context of ministry leadership.

If you have time today please look at the Women of Grace website for more.

It had been raining all week, but somehow I knew from previous experience that we would have wonderful weather for our July 8, 2016 Hidden Lake event. Sure enough, the sun broke out for a glorious, warm day in the Alaska out-of-doors. Hidden Lake has become an annual event planned for youth, adults and for the unity of  all Alaskan Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches to gather in the unity of Christ.  John 17:21
Grown ups, youth and young adults gathered for an afternoon of boating, canoeing and inner tubing on beautiful Hidden Lake.  The Lake is tucked away within the pristine wilderness of the Kenai Wildlife Refuge on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska.
By 5 pm, the campfire was going in the amphitheater fire pit overlooking the lake. The BBQ began, followed by ice cream.
During evening devotions, hymns and church songs echoed out over the lake and throughout the nearby campground.  Matt Aho gave a heartfelt devotion on how God helps us overcome our fears. Thank you for blessing us with God's Word, Matt.
Under the midnight sun, boating and games continued as we all took in the wonderful peace that comes from being in God's creation and being in Christ.
Sky Watchers (Grace Brethren Boys), Alaska Unit 1, boated out to the middle of the large lake and landed on the islands to explore them.
Prayer:  Thank you, Lord for your Word, the atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross, the loving fellowship of believers in worship, the unity of believers and your beautiful creation. Amen.

1 Timothy 2:1-3
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone --for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior."

This summer Young Adults from the Kenai Grace Brethren Church joined Vision Alaska to prayer walk in Seward, Alaska. Seward is a beautiful small town on the coast in South Central Alaska.
The photo shows (back row, L-R) Jessica, Travis, Miriam, and Amber. Front row is Melissa, Cherri and Abigail.
Vision Alaska is looking for those in Seward, who would like to start a church or home church.
Prayer walking is a spiritual discipline. It is a way of walking in places and meeting people while saturating the area with prayer. Seeing people and their community through the eyes of Jesus makes us more sensitive to their needs. Prayer walking is often done by a team prior to starting a work in the area.
After the prayer walk, we had a BBQ at a campground overlooking the ocean and the magnificent mountains. Great thoughts and observations were made by the participants about what they thought and experienced.
Pray for Seward and that God would begin a new work there. If you know of people who would like to start a work there, please call Dr. Roger Holl at (907) 862-0336.
